Purpose

The Purpose of this blog is as the title suggests - to show the role video games have played throughout our history in various forms of literature, art, and media.

Video gaming has been around since as early as the 50's, though it probably only became popular around the 70's with Pong. Video games have changed greatly over time, and evolved as significant advancements in tech were made.

While games are usually generalized as being a simple form of entertainment filling the role of a "video game" as a book or a movie fills their own roles - on closer inspection, one can find a ton of different elements within them that they combine - when separated, these pieces of the game can fill other roles and categories.

Those categories include - but are not limited to - things such as story or narrative, music, atmosphere, artistic style, and gameplay. Each of these categories can be just as well fleshed out in a game as the last, and each of them can hinder, or enhance a person's experience of a game - just like with any other medium.

Some times, each of them come together to form an overall memorable experience - other times, one category will be overlooked by the creators, but another category will overshadow that one by such a large margin that it almost makes up for the fault entirely.
