Paper 4 Remix

Remix Assignment 4 - Various forms of Art in Gaming:

For this remix, I wanted to give examples as to how video games can be viewed as an art form. This video demonstrates narrated poetry created for the game diablo:

Lyrics (The Halls of the Blind)
I can see what you see not,
Vision milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone,
Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be,
Shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind,
Cast down into the Halls of the Blind.

In my opinion, It's a beautifully written poem by the game's writers, and stands well on its own as a poem in general.

Art in video games can be found in all forms, from design to writing to the graphics of the video games, such as Crysis:
 A sunrise in the game.

Overlooking a mountain

A frozen Ocean, Island and Carrier.
Alien ship.

Or Battlefield 3:

Desert overview
Overview of Caspian Border - Woodland map
Aircraft Carrier

Here's a video of one of the frozen segments of Crysis in Action:

Art has heavily influenced these games in different ways. It's hard not to acknowledge these games being art when everything in them is designed with artistic sense that's obviously visible. Some of these scenes look much more "artistic" then anything in real life because they are meant to please the eye. Much like a traditional piece of art is. They aim for beauty, and while they do aim for realism as well, there is a clear balance between the two that gives each game a distinctive look. Notice that they both look somewhat "realistic", yet they don't really look at all similar.
